Book Week Activity

An editable book cover hunt. Children will follow the clues on the reverse side of each book cover and hunt around the school for some hidden treasure. They must write down the names of the book covers that they come across too and aim to read at least one of them that week. Just something a bit different during Book Week to engage them with different books. For more information of activities that we did during Book Week, check out my Instagram: Rebecca.the.irish.teacher.

Philosophy 4 Children is being taught across the UK to teach children fundamental skills such as: critical thinking. reasoning skills. empathy. team work. In this pack, I have included: Philosophy Display Cards Philosophy lesson plan: recycling Philosophy lesson plan: friendships Philosophy Powerpoint: recycling Philosophy Powerpoint: friendships A document on how to teach philosophy. I have been teaching Philosophy lessons for a whole term now and the difference it has made in children’s problem solving skills in friendship issues, aswell as mathematical problems is amazing! We spend an hour a week on P4C and it’s the children’s favourite lesson. Some of them have come out with some cracking conclusions too: “Crying is an expression of your truest emotions. The body takes over from the mind”. I mean WOW!

Christmas Activities: Themed Maths

A mathematical activity to engage children with converting units of measure (Christmas Theme). I have included a map of the world with different parts labelled for children to measure the distances between. Children must measure the distance between 2 different parts of the world. Then because 1cm=35 minutes, they must then calculate how long it would take to get to said part. For example: How long will it take Santa to get from house A to house B? Using your ruler, measure the distance from A to B. If it’s 7.6 cm- round to the nearest whole number which is 8cm. 1cm = 35 minutes so 35 x 8 = 280 minutes =4 hours 40 minutes Fill in the table below of your findings. This example has been done for you. Children must then fill in a table with their findings. Included also is two different design opportunities. Children can design their own Christmas jumper and Christmas cookies.

Enjoy some fun Maths activities by engaging the children with the World Cup 2022. The country of Qatar is getting ready for 2022, so why shouldn’t we? A mathematical activity to engage children with converting units of measure (World Cup Theme). Lesson Plan included. Familiarise the children with the layout of the stadiums. Children must measure the distance between a letter and a stadium. Then because 1cm=35 minutes, they must then calculate how long it would take to get to said stadium. For example: How long will it take A to get to Lusail stadium? Using your ruler, measure the distance from A to Lusail stadium. If it’s 7.6 cm- round to the nearest whole number which is 8cm. 1cm = 35 minutes so 35 x 8 = 280 minutes =4 hours 40 minutes Children must then fill in a table with their findings. A fun activity for the whole class. Please let me know what you and your class thought of this resource- I can’t wait to hear your thoughts. I have included a map of Qatar with the football stadiums.

Can you feel the excitement brewing for the FIFA World Cup 2018?!? My class cannot stop talking about the World Cup lately. This has driven me to make lots of resources based on the event. In this bundle I’ve included all of the resources I’ve made so far on the World Cup. Included: *A maths activity for children to calculate the distances between the World Cup stadiums and convert the units. *A maths game involving children representing a country and answering a maths question to score a ‘goal’. Then competing against other countries to win the final. *Mathematical word problems (and answers) involving the Russian Currency. *2 activities were children engage with designing their own fantasy World cup jersey and team. *A maths activity involving children identifying the co-ordinates in which Ronaldo passes to his team mates. Each activity has already sold numerous times on TES and TpT, so by bundling them together I hope it to be of some benefit. I really hope you enjoy these resources as much as my class and I did. Please leave a review and let me know how you and your class like them.

Book Week Planning: Charlie and the Chocolate Factory

As last week was Book Week, I planned a week’s worth of lessons based around the book ‘Charlie and the Chocolate Factory’. Each day, we read a chapter of the story and then engage in lessons based on what we’ve read. As you can see from the cover image, this involves lots of chocolate!! The children absolutely adored these lessons and were so engaged in the process of melting chocolate. They needed to see which chocolate would be the best to build the Indian Prince’s palace out of by melting different types of chocolate. HINT: flakes don’t melt! Honestly, a really fun week and trust me, you’ll enjoy it too. Please check out my Instagram for more of my activities for Book Week: Rebecca.the.irish.teacher

Bonfire Night explained through a colourful, visual powerpoint. I have used a wide range of pictures to teach children about Bonfire Night. As I have a huge portion of EAL learners in my class, I have included simple, clear pictures that make the content easy to understand. The story is told in an interesting way, through use of speech bubbles and cartoon pictures. Easily adaptable for a younger class also. As an activity, I asked children to create a comic strip based on what they learned about Bonfire Night. For EAL or low ability learners, I have included differentiated resources and images to assist them. This resource includes: *A colourful, interactive powerpoint. *Differentiated acitivities Please leave a review on your thoughts. Thanks

FIFA WORLD CUP 2018 is HERE! Coming from a ‘football crazy’ class, I knew my class would want to spend the end of year engaging with content based around the FIFA world cup. This resource involves the whole class and is a way to consolidate maths through the World Cup. I have included: PPT for the names of 30 children PPT for the names/groups of the countries in the World Cup Scoreboard to track who is winning/competing against who. Research sheet to engage children with the country they chose Over 45 different maths questions WITH answers Game rules Example of a layout of who plays who Children names will be drawn from a hat along with a country. They will then be representing this country in the game. Children will roll a dice 6 times. If either competing team rolls a 6, this equates to one goal IF they can answer the a maths question (included) correctly. If they get it incorrect, the goal has been saved by their opponent. Aimed at KS2. Can be eaily adapted for your children too. In my class, there are only 18 students, but I have included enough for 30. (As there is 2 extra teams, the first two children ‘out’ can come back in. An exhilarating, fun activity for those ‘End of Year’ days that we all crave activities for. We really enjoyed it :)

IT’S GETTING CLOSER!!! As the FIFA World Cup 2018 approaches, I get more motivated to engage with activities focused on the World Cup. This activity allows children to: *Design their very own FANTASY World Cup Jersey *Create their own FANTASY football team (players of their choice) *Investigate the coordinates in which Ronaldo passes the ball to his teammates. I used this with my class of 8/9 year olds and they were so excited, they didn’t even notice that there was a small bit of Maths involved. Please leave a review and let me know how your class got on with this brand new resource :)
